Ayliea produces a numeric score from 0 to 100 for each completed assessment. This score reflects how completely your organization has implemented the controls defined by the selected compliance framework.
Scoring Methodology
Scores are calculated in two stages:
Stage 1 — Category scores. For each category, Ayliea sums the points you earned across all questions and divides by the maximum possible points for that category:
category_score = (points_earned / max_points) × 100
Each question defines its own maximum point value, and partial credit is available for checklist and scale question types. Points earned are capped at each question’s maximum regardless of the response selected.
Stage 2 — Weighted overall score. The category scores are combined into a single overall score using a weighted average. Each category carries a weight defined by the framework:
overall_score = Σ(category_score × category_weight) / Σ(category_weight)
This means categories that cover more critical or broadly applicable controls contribute more to the final score than narrower or lower-priority categories. The exact weights are defined per framework by the respective standard’s guidance on control priority.
Grade Scale
Your numeric score maps to a letter grade as follows:
| Grade | Score Range | Label |
|---|
| A | 90 – 100 | Excellent |
| B | 75 – 89 | Good |
| C | 60 – 74 | Fair |
| D | 40 – 59 | Poor |
| F | 0 – 39 | Critical |
The grade boundaries are intentionally strict. A B (Good) requires 75 or above, reflecting that security posture below 75% leaves meaningful gaps in control coverage. An A (Excellent) requires 90 or above and represents a mature, broadly implemented control set.
Both the numeric score and letter grade are displayed on the score gauge on your Dashboard and Results screen.
Category Weighting
Category weights are defined per framework and are set to reflect the relative importance of each control domain within the standard:
- A category with weight 2 contributes twice as much to the overall score as a category with weight 1
- Categories with a weight of 0 are informational only and do not affect the overall score
- If all categories carry equal weight, the overall score is a simple average of the category scores
You can see the relative contribution of each category in the Category Breakdown on your dashboard. Categories with higher weights that score poorly have a disproportionate impact on your overall score — improving them moves the needle the most.
Score Range
Scores are expressed as a percentage from 0 (no controls implemented) to 100 (all controls fully implemented). A score of 100 does not indicate zero risk — it reflects full coverage of the assessed framework’s control set as evaluated through self-reported answers.
Assessment scores are based on self-reported answers. Ayliea scores your posture against what you report — results are only as accurate as the answers you provide. For controls you are uncertain about, use the Notes field to flag items for follow-up verification.
How to Improve Your Score
Your score improves by implementing controls in your weakest categories. Ayliea generates prioritized AI recommendations after each completed assessment to guide your remediation efforts.
Recommendations are ranked by impact — controls in higher-weight categories with the largest point gaps surface first. Many recommendations include step-by-step implementation playbooks.
